About Us
Kormah Shepherd Hood Mission School
The Kormah Shepherdhood Mission School System (KOSMISS) is a faith-based educational institution founded on a vision of transforming lives through accessible, quality, and holistic education. The dream of KOSMISS was first conceived by Rev. Dr. Jallah Kormah during his time in exile at the Buduburam Refugee Camp in the Gomoa District of Ghana amid the Liberian civil war.
While away from home, Rev. Dr. Kormah carried a strong desire to contribute to the restoration and development of Liberia, especially by creating educational opportunities for children whose futures had been affected by years of conflict and hardship.
In February 2009, after returning to Voinjama City, Lofa County, Rev. Dr. Kormah was deeply touched by the number of children wandering the streets instead of attending school. His visits to surrounding schools revealed serious challenges within the education system, including families struggling to afford tuition fees and classrooms left without teachers due to poor working conditions and limited financial support.
Motivated by compassion, faith, and a commitment to community transformation, Rev. Dr. Kormah established KOSMISS with a mission to provide affordable, quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. His vision was not only to teach children academic subjects but also to develop their moral values, emotional well-being, spiritual growth, and leadership potential. The school was designed to provide structured learning, daily care, and support services that would enable children to thrive.
On September 14, 2009, this vision became a reality as Kormah Shepherdhood Mission School System officially opened its doors in Voinjama City with 32 pioneer students. The school began operations in a renovated section of Rev. Dr. Kormah’s residence and was guided by its first principal, Mrs. Esther Kohone, who helped lay the foundation for the institution’s commitment to excellence.
Since its establishment, KOSMISS has experienced remarkable growth and continues to make a lasting impact in the lives of students, families, and communities. The Voinjama campus has developed into a fully accredited senior high school recognized by the Ministry of Education of Liberia. During the 2019/2020 academic year, the school proudly celebrated the graduation of its first senior class of 56 students, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
Through dedication, faith, and the continued support of its community, KOSMISS has expanded its reach beyond Lofa County. Additional campuses were established in Wood Camp, Montserrado County, in 2013, and Gbarnga City, Bong County, in 2017, extending the school’s mission of providing quality education and empowering young people across Liberia.
Today, KOSMISS remains committed to its founding vision: to nurture responsible, knowledgeable, and compassionate individuals who are prepared to positively impact their communities and the world.
To God be the glory for the journey, the growth, and the lives transformed through education.
Every day at Kormah Shepherdhood Mission School System (KOSMISS) is an opportunity to inspire, nurture, and empower young minds. Our school community is filled with the energy, curiosity, and creativity of our students, supported by dedicated teachers and staff who are committed to guiding every learner with care and excellence.
